The Book Coaching Journey

Book coaches are professional writers, readers, and editors who help folks get their stories out into the world. We can help you tell your story in the most effective way possible via narrative guidance, story craft consulting, and general creative support.

Writing is an exceptionally lonely pastime, and book coaches can help you navigate the ups and downs of the work with guidance and support.

In my case:

  • I work with writers starting out on their journey to help them get a plan.

  • I coach individuals through the drafting and revision of their early works in progress.

  • I offer coaching and consulting to help beginning writers gain the confidence to tell their stories.

  • I coach in all genre fiction, but my specialties are Detective/Crime/Cozy, Thriller, and Sci-Fi.

But You’re Not Famous. How Can You Possibly Help? Shouldn’t I Call James Patterson or One of His Cadre of Ghostwriters?

But, seriously, I’ve always been obsessed with books. I wrote my first “novel” when I was six. And over the past 30 years, I’ve made progress as a writer:

The core reason I do this work is that stories have been so important to me in my life. Stories were my way of escaping, processing, and connecting with the world when things got turbulent: when my dad died when I was young; when I came out in a religious household; when I bailed on law school plans and pursued a writing degree. I know how powerful a narrative is to experience and tell. I want to help others create those connections and share their stories with the world.

Also, coaches don’t have to be famous or part of a cadre of ghostwriters. Top NBA coaches aren’t the most famous players. Likewise for baseball, basketball, and tennis. Executive coaches aren’t the most powerful CEOs. Coaches are people who love the work and want to see people excel. They are curious about excellence and become masters in their field to help bring others up. And that’s what I love to do for beginning writers.

Book Coaching Services

If you want to jump straight to it, check out my packages below. I offer book coaching services in three kinds of packages.

 

The Blueprint

This package will help you plan your novel. I will give you the Author Accelerator Blueprint for a Book. You’ll review and complete the tool, and then we’ll schedule an hour call to review your project and talk through any issues or roadblocks. The goal of these sessions is to get you feeling confident with a clear path forward on writing your novel.

Pricing: Packages start at $150

Manuscript Evaluation

Have a completed draft but don’t know what’s next? In a manuscript review, I’ll go through the project and help you find strengths and opportunities for improvement. After I complete the review, we’ll have a call to discuss the project and the path forward. You’ll leave the evaluation with clear developmental edits and a roadmap for a new draft.

Price: Packages start at $50 for a first chapter review

 

Ongoing Coaching

I love working closely with writers during their writing and revision process. In an ongoing coaching package, I work with you as you draft or revise your project. We’ll meet 1 or 2 times per month and I’ll review pages, provide notes, and then we’ll meet for 45 minutes to discuss feedback.
